Four Ways to Make a Business Name Attractive
Acronym is a kind of playing with names and a way to normalize long names. Names such as IBM have distanced their branding era. Some people use smart methods to abbreviate, and create all the characteristics that we mentioned for names through this method. In this way, that acronym becomes an attractive word that can be branded. This acronym is also attractive and easy to pronounce by everyone who eventually uses the brand. Another interesting type of naming is combining two words. For example, in the language of a country that is not English, a word in the local language is combined with an English word. That English word is not known in the local language, but when you make a melodic combination, it will remain even in the minds of people who do not understand English. Another way to make a name attractive is to invert it or scramble its letters. The beginning, middle, and final letters of the product or service are combined to form a meaningless word, but that word will later become a brand. Using numbers for naming is another way to make a name attractive. This technique will definitely create presuppositions in the audience’s mind. The number must be used because of a special reason. In English, for example, numbers are often used in writing, and yet, make up the same meaning out of a word.
Note 1 Depending on where a number is used in a word, the word will convey different meanings.
In English, numbers such as 7, 10, and 100 make sense. The number 24/7 conveys the meaning of 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week. The number seven is mostly used to represent the concept of seven days a week. “One” implies the meaning of being number one and top. The number 100 implies the best quality and the highest score (It simply stands for totality or completeness).
Note 2 The use of numbers in a business name should be based on the culture of the geographical area of the target market of the company.
For instance, in Chinese culture, numbers have various meanings; therefore, when using numbers in a business name, all aspects of the matter must be examined and all the possible meanings that may come to the listeners’ mind should be considered. When uttering 100, the audience should remember exactly the same determined meanings.
