Live on Air: Something Wonderful You Did Not Know You Had
Dave assumes his on-air voice and says, “Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome to the show. This is your main man Big Dave, and I’m here with Steve Lowe, author of: “How to Become a Millionaire…Legally.” “Ah...Hi.” Steve says. “So, Steve, word on the street is your book is flying off the shelves like a “Harry Potter” novel on opening day.
Is that true,” Big Dave says with enthusiasm. “Ah... Yes.” Steve says slowly. “Oh, that big goof!” Jan exclaims listening from her office. Dave tries a new question, hoping to change the atmosphere, and pump up the show’s mood. He asks, “So, tell us, Steve, what first led you to write this book?” “Well, I met this lady…,” Steve starts, trailing off.
“Oh, what, she was your muse?” Dave says, trying to get Steve into interview mode. “Yeah, she was something special; although...I...didn’t know it at the time.” “Yeah - right, little-miss-publisher got his blood pressure - and other things – up,” Jan almost yells. Fuming now and staring at the radio. Dave leans into the microphone. “So, how did she inspire you?
Did she give you the seed for the idea for the book?” Steve starts and trails off again. “No, actually, she was - back then - just a...business partner. But… we… shared something special… I just….” Dave leans in closer to the microphone, his voice low. “But you didn’t know it at the time?” Steve’s voice starts, then trails off, again.
“No, I didn’t. You ever have a situation where...you had something really wonderful, and you...didn’t know it until…” “Until it was gone,” Dave says finishing Steve’s thought. “Yeah - exactly.” Steve says, coming to terms with his feelings for the first time. Jan drops her head. Leaving the radio on, she gets up, and heads towards her office door. Dave pulls back from the microphone, assuming his usual radio voice.
“Dude, just about every guy has been in that situation. So, how did she help with you doing this book?” “You’ll just have to read the book’s dedication,” Steve says, looking into the empty space on the wall behind Dave. Dave opens the front cover of the book and begins to read. “‘To a special lady, the one who made me feel truly loved - Jan.’ Wow, guess she was quite a lady.” Speaking to the wall behind Dave again, Steve answers.
“Yeah, still is. I just wish I could make her understand that.” Jan slowly steps back into her office doorway, a look of total surprise envelops her face.
