Register Your Domain and Your Trademark

If possible, register the internet domain of the name you select for your brand. If you care about online sale in your business, you need to register the domain of your brand’s name. If it wasn’t possible to do so, then change the name of your brand so you can get the name of its domain as well.

You need to register your brand’s internet domain with the domain extension “.com” unless you are in a certain geographical area.

After selecting the name of a brand and its internet domain, you need to register that name or logo.

Suppose your brand is name of a company. In that case, you need to have registered the name of that company in the geographical location of the target market.

If the geographical area of your target market is a province with independent regulations in a country such as Canada and the US, you need to do the registration in your province.

If you work internationally, you need to follow the corresponding rules of registration.

Trademark registration is the next step. In the process of branding, trademark has the highest priority over everything else. Whether it’s the name of a product or service, or it’s the name of the company or your name, you need to make it a trademark. In case of trademark, where the target market is located geographically is of great importance. Some companies such as Apple and Microsoft spend millions of dollars annually to support their brands’ trademark.

Trademark must be registered first in the country where you offer your product, and then in the US, and finally, in other countries.

For example, if your work in Norway, it’s better to register the corresponding mark in the US after registering it in Norway because registration in the US has great leverage. As the saying goes, every fox must pay his skin to the furrier!

If you offer services, you need to register Service Mark which is similar to trademark but instead of TM, its acronym is SM.
