A Partnership With No Senior Partner and No Egos
Jan and Linda spent a bit of time chatting with the investors, while Hillary James continued to speak to Steve as Greg joined them. Jan watched Steve and Hillary suspiciously. Hillary was being slightly flirtatious with Steve. She leaned in a bit seductively saying, “Well, gentlemen, I am impressed. Who was your design team?”
“Team?” Steve asked. Greg replied, pointing at Steve and himself, “You're looking at them.”
Pleasantly surprised, Hilary found the statement somewhat hard to believe. “You? You two guys?”
“Well,” Steve replied, stammering. “It was a joint effort. Greg comes up with ideas, and I sort of massage them.”
“That's putting it politely!” Greg countered, jumping in and smiling. “I'm the ‘people person.’ I'm good at ‘pressing the flesh,’ as they say. Steve is the real idea man, and then he turns those ideas into reality.”
Hillary lifted her chin for a moment of thought. “Huh, a partnership with no senior partner and no egos clashing. Boys, I must say. I am very much impressed.” She removed two of her business cards from her stylish attaché case and handed them to Greg and Steve. Jan, still watching this all unfold from across the room, ignored her guests, scrutinizing the scene between Steve and Hillary with more intensity. Greg looked down at the business card slightly confused. “What's this all about? We already have your info,” he told her, knowing that Jan had created a profile for each of the guests attending the presentation.
“It’s because I want to do more than invest in your company. Boys, I think you have real potential. Call my office, talk to my assistant, and let's set up a meeting.”
“Ahhh…,” said Steve as he tried to understand fully what was happening.
“You got it!” Greg responded, nodding.
