Steve's Skyscraper Daydream: Maybe We Should Avoid Getting Too Big

Yeah. So just how big will we get to be?” Steve asked as his mind wandered off into another one of his daydreams. He imagined the small space they had just rented growing into a huge, towering office building, scraping the skyline of a major city. The company was to be situated on the top floor of the skyscraper, with a massive desk sitting against the far wall, which was all glass and looked out over the city. The room was full of high-end furniture and mahogany file cabinets. Steve, in an Armani suit, sat at his desk, his first secretary sitting on the other side of the desk in front of him. His second secretary stood attentively next to Steve. His third secretary put files in the cabinet while the fourth secretary took files out of another cabinet. “All right, send out those letters, file those files, and get me some more coffee,” Steve commanded.

“Yes, Sir!” shouted the secretaries in unison, resuming their work as Greg came in.

“Ah, Steve, I hate to burst your bubble, but,” interrupted Greg.

“Then don't!” shouted Steve.

“But I have to! The rent, taxes, and insurance on this building are killing us. Plus, all the staff - their pay, insurance, and benefits are also killing us. We can't afford to maintain this any longer!” yelled Greg.

Suddenly, two U.S. Marshalls entered with guns drawn. “I'm sorry, gentlemen, but you're under arrest for tax evasion,” announced the lead Marshall. Back in the small Orlando strip mall, Steve shook his head and rubbed his eyes. “Huh, maybe we should avoid getting too big,” Steve said to himself quietly as he added his signature to Greg’s on the new lease.
